Amongst the grit and grime of post WWII New York City one could find a bearded, viking-clad man standing and occasionally busking around 6th Avenue and 52-56th street. Moondog, a blind poet and musical philosopher, was often referred to as "the Viking of 6th Avenue" by pedestrians. What pedestrians didn't understand was his prominence in the New York jazz and music scene, mingling with the likes of Charlie Parker and Benny Goodman. A creative genius, Moondog was a self taught musician who blended noises of urban life with experimental instruments. Nearly 20 years after his passing, the "Moondog" graphic honors the Viking of Sixth Avenue as an irreplaceable piece of New York's street culture.
